Fwayo Tembo (born 2 May 1989 in Lusaka) is a Zambian professional footballer who is currently playing for MTN FAZ Super League side Power Dynamos F.C.
Football career
Basel
On 29 May 2010, Tembo joined FC Basel for a reported fee of €1.2 million.[2] He made his debut on 20 July 2010 in the 3:2 home win against FC Zürich.[3] He scored his first goal for the club on 14 August during the 1:4 home defeat against FC Luzern.[4] He scored another goal from the penalty spot on 10 April 2011 in the away draw against BSC Young Boys in the Stade de Suisse.[5] At the end of the 2009–10 season the Zambian won the Swiss Super League.
Racist incident
Fwayo Tembo left FC Basel after he accused club coach Thorsten Fink of making racist remarks towards him during a training session. Fink is reported to have told a collaborator to "get the monkey down from the tree."[6]
Astra Giurgiu
In the summer of 2012, he signed a contract with the Romanian side Astra Giurgiu.[7]
Power Dynamos FC
He joined Power Dynamos F.C. on a 2 year deal on Monday 4th April 2016 and made his debut on Saturday 9th April coming on off the bench at Arthur Davies Stadium in the second half for teammate Luka Lungu in a match Power went on to win 1-0.
International career
Tembo played for the national team in the 2007 African Youth Championship. He was the topscorer of the competition with 5 goals.[8]
He played for the Zambia national under-20 football team during the 2007 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Canada, scoring a goal from the penalty spot in the game against Jordan national under-20 football team on 1 July 2007.[9]
Fwayo Tembo played for the Zambia national football team at the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations in Ghana.
