Catherine Phiri (born 19 July 1992) is a female Zambian boxer from Lusaka.

Boxing career

Catherine debuted on 25 July 2011 when she defeated Zambian boxer Esther Chalwe at the National Sports Development Centre in Lusaka.[1] She won the title of the World Boxing Council bantam weight champion by defeating the world champion Mexican boxer Yazmin Rivas on 30th January 2016 in Mexico.[2] She became the first Zambian to win the linear WBC title after the legendary Lottie Mwale failed at the attempt on 28 November 1980 when he lost to Saad Muhammad.[3]

Her 13th fight was on 27 August 2016 at Lusaka's Government Complex where she knocked out South Africa's Gabisile Tshabalala for the WBC World female bantamweight title barely two minutes into the first round after failing to respond to a flurry from Catherine.[4]

Management

She is managed by Chris Malunga of Orienatal Quarries Boxing Promotions.[1]
