Request Muntanga (born 27th October 1952[1] died 08 July 2016) was a Zambian agriculturalist and politician who served as Kalomo Member of Parliament under the United Party for National Development (UPND).

Education

Muntanga possesed an Advanced Diploma in Agriculture Business Management, a Cambridge School Certificate and a Diploma LSP Agriculture.[1]

Political career

Muntanga served as UPND Member of Parliament from 2001 to 2016 for Kalomo, Southern Province. He was also a prominent Kalomo commercial farmer and while in Parliament, served as Chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee on Agriculture. He was also an Executive Member of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) where he was a Treasurer, apart from being a member of the Inter-Parliamentary Union.

He became one of the pillars of the UPND having served in the party’s first National Management Committee.[2]

He was committee member of Lands, Environment and Tourism from January 2015 and Communications, Transport, Works and Supply from September 2015.[1]

Death

Muntanga was admitted to the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) after suffering a stroke. He died on 8 July 2016 at UTH and was put to rest on 12 July at his farm in Kalomo.

Secretary to the Cabinet Roland Msiska announced that President Edgar Lungu declared 12 July a Day of National Mourning in honour of late former Kalomo UPND MP Request Muntanga.
