Regina Chifunda Chiluba (died 26 February 2017) was third wife of the second republican President Frederick Chiluba. She was also the former chairperson of women's affairs for the Movement for Multi-Party Democracy (MMD) in Lusaka.
Personal life
On 21 February 2002, Regina’s marriage to her first husband Edward Mwanza was dissolved by Ndola High Court Judge Japhet Banda, after Mwanza failed to defend a divorce application his wife Regina had filled with the court.[1] On 6 May 2002 she officially married former President Frederick Chiluba after he divorced his wife Vera Tembo. On 18 June 2011 her husband died from a heart condition.
Legal battles
Regina spent most of her life with Chiluba in courts of law as Chiluba and herself were dragged into court on allegations of corruption by the Mwanawasa government. In 2009, she was jailed by the Lusaka Magistrate Court for allegedly receiving government property but was later acquitted by the Lusaka High Court.[2]
Death
Regina died at the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) on 26 February 2017. Government evacuated to India in November 2016 reportedly battling cancer. She however came back a week before her death and was immediately admitted to the UTH as her condition was deemed terminal.[3]
Regina is survived by her children Bwalya, Malama and Mando.[1]
