Kalumba Chikonde
Kalumba Chikonde, professionally known as K-Smash is a Zambian radio and TV personality, scriptwriter, voice-over artist and entertainer.
Early life and education
Chikonde was born and raised in Lusaka and is the last born in a family of eight. He went to Lusaka Boys School for his primary education, then Munali Boys Secondary School for his secondary. He later went to Evelyn Hone College to study accounts. In 2009 he pursued a degree in Public Relations at Cavendish University, Zambia.
Career
Chikonde started his career in 1996 when he joined ZNBC's Radio 4 Fun Club where he presented an entertainment segment. He joined mainstream radio as a newscaster at Radio Phoenix in March 1997. From 2002 - 2004 he worked as a Radio presenter at QFM where he also produced the Drive Time show & co-produced the Breakfast show.
He is also a co-founder of Hot FM and served as the station's first Programmes Manager, Creative and Content Director.
He created radio shows and brands for various stations he worked for. Some of these include Hot Demo Action, Local Rhythms Countdown, Pillow Talk, Sunday Morning Breeze on Radio Phoenix and Zed Six to Six on Hot FM.
He started his TV career and became host of The Mondo Music Zone sponsored by Mondo Music on ZNBC from 2002 to 2005. He later moved to become host of Pipo's Choice music countdown show on MUVI TV and Africa Unite TV. He also hosted a reality show called ‘Zambia’s Next King of Comedy' on ZNBC TV and the Kabanana Reality Show. He currently presents the ‘Today with Zamtel’ TV show and the Ground Xero produced ‘Road to the Mosi Lager Zambian Music Awards’ show available on Youtube.
