Brian Mushimba (born 7 November 1974) is a Zambian politician who has been serving as the Minister of Transport and Communication since September 2016.[1] Mushimba joined the Patriotic Front party in 2001 and has been a Member of Parliament of Kankoyo constituency since August 2016.[2]

Early life and education

Mushimba did his primary and part of his junior secondary school education in Kankoyo where he met Amos Malupenga the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Local Government and Housing. He proceeded to Mplelembe Secondary School where he completed his Grade 12 and went on to do his Form Six under the ZCCM academic scholarship program. Brian holds a Bachelors of Science Degree (BSc) in Mining Engineering from the University of Arizona in the United States of America. He holds a Master’s Degree in Engineering Management and a Master’s Degree in Business Administration (MBA), both from Salem International University in the USA. He also holds an Executive Leadership Certificate from Strathmore Business School in Kenya and currently he is a PHD candidate in Environmental Engineering at the University of Zambia (UNZA). To top it all, he is a member of the Engineering Institute of Zambia EIZ.

Career

Mushimba worked for seven years at Siemens Power Generation in the USA as an Electrical Instrumentation and Controls Engineer, Design Engineer and Project Manager. While working at Siemens, he commissioned roughly 10,000 Megawatts of new capacity onto the USA national power grid as the lead commissioning engineer on those projects.

He has previously worked at Lafarge cement in the USA as Engineering Manager and also had a three year stint at the Lafarge Zambian branch in Chilanga where he also worked as Engineering and Maintenance Manager. Mushimba's work experience also includes years of service at Pratt and Whitney power systems in the USA as the Aeroderivative Gas Turbine Product Line Manager in charge of power plant asset base and fleet management.

He also worked at Eskom in South Africa firstly as the Technical Director for three years and later as Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Eskom subsidiary in Uganda.

Personal life

Mushimba is married to Brenda and they have two children.
