Alexander Bwalya Chikwanda (born 24 December 1938) is a Zambian politician serving as the Minister of Finance and National Planning since October 2011.[1]

Early life and education

Chikwanda was born on 24 December 1938. He studied economics at Lund University in Sweden[2] and has a Bachelor of Science in Economics.[3]

Career

An economist by profession, he was first elected to Parliament in 1973 as Member of Parliament for Kalulushi Constituency. In 1978, he was nominated by Dr. Kenneth Kaunda as Member of Parliament. In 2011, President Michael Sata nominated him as Member of Parliament.[3]

He is a member of parliament and Minister of Finance and National Planning. Chikwanda also serves as Vice Chairman of the Board of Governors of Eastern and Southern African Trade and Development Bank since 1 September 2015.
