Tasila Lungu Mwansa (born 10 May 1983) is a Zambian politician and philanthropist. She is a member of the Patriotic Front (PF) and has been serving as the Member of Parliament for Chawama Constituency since 2021. She is the daughter of former Zambian President Edgar Lungu and former First Lady Esther Lungu.

Early life and education

Tasila Lungu was born on 10 May 1983. At the age of 12, she and her mother moved to the United States. She returned to Zambia following her father's election victory in January 2015. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in History and a Master of Science in Criminal Justice.[1]

Political career

In 2021, Tasila Lungu contested and won the parliamentary seat for Chawama Constituency under the Patriotic Front. She has served on various parliamentary committees, including the Committee on Legal Affairs, Human Rights and Governance, and the Committee on Transport, Works and Supply.[1]

In March 2025, she announced her intention to re-contest the Chawama seat in the 2026 general elections. She has been an advocate for increased participation of women in leadership roles and has called for better remuneration for local government councillors.[2]

Tasila Lungu has faced legal challenges related to allegations of money laundering. In September 2024, the Economic and Financial Crimes Court ordered the forfeiture of her farm in Sinda District, valued at over K8 million, citing a significant disparity between the property's value and her declared income.[3]

In January 2025, the Court of Appeal granted a conditional stay of execution on the forfeiture, allowing her to retain possession of the farm pending the outcome of her appeal.[4]

On 11 February 2025, the Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) arrested and charged her with money laundering and possession of property suspected to be proceeds of crime. The charges pertain to the same farm in Sinda. She was released on police bond and is expected to appear in court as the legal proceedings continue.[5]

Personal life

In 2020, Tasila Lungu married Patrick Mwansa.
