In 1988, Sadam Hussein, “The former leader of Iraq” visited Zambia on the invitation of Zambia's first Republican President Kenneth Kaunda. On this visit the former Iraqi leader had the honour of having one of the main boulevard in the capital named after him, Sadam Hussien Boulevard. This is the road stretching from the Kabulonga roundabout through the Longacres roundabout up to the Addis Ababa roundabout. But due to the invasion of Kwit by Iraq in the first Gulf war the name of the Boulevard was quietly changed to Los Angels Boulevard.
