Wilson Chisala Kalumba was the mayor of Lusaka city. He took over office as mayor in 2016 until his untimely death on 15 May 2018 .[1] He was a member of the Patriotic Front.

Professional career

Kalumba was a qualified Chartered Accountant under the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) following his studies at Emile Wolf College in London. He was also a Fellow Member of the Zambia Institute of Chartered Accountants (ZICA). He later obtained his Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from Edinburgh Business School at Heriot-Watt University in Scotland, United Kingdom. He was a Certified Forensic Accountant, a specialized designation awarded by the American College of Forensic Examiners in the United States.

Mayor of Lusaka

In 2016, Kalumba, who was also Chief Executive Officer of Credit Rating Agency, was elected Mayor of Lusaka after polling 270,151 votes beating his closest rival former First Lady Maureen Mwanawasa of the United Party for National Development (UPND) who received 150,807 votes.[2]

Death

Kalumba died at the age of 54 on 15 May 2018 at the University Teaching Hospital in Lusaka where he was taken ill on the morning of 8 May. His death was confirmed by Minister of Local Government, Vincent Mwale.
