Godwin Akashambatwa Mbikusita Lewanika II (born c1907 died 1977) was a Litunga (king) of Barotseland from 1968 to 1977. He was also a politician who founded the first political party in the country, the Northern Rhodesia Congress (NRC) in 1948.
Early life and education
Pioneering education
Lewanika had good relations with the Indian High Commissioner in Kenya. It was through this channel that he managed to organise scholarships for Simon Mwansa Kapwepwe, Mainza Chona, Nalumino Mundia and Daniel Lisulo to go and study in India in the 1950s
