James John Skinner (24 July 1923 – 21 October 2008) was an Irish-born Zambian politician and jurist. He was the first Minister of Justice of independent Zambia and the only White member of Zambia's first cabinet. Following his time as a Zambian jurist, Skinner moved to neighbouring Malawi, where he was Chief Justice from 1970 to 1985. His final judicial appointment was as a Social Security Commissioner in England from 1986 to 1996. (Full article...)

Politics of Zambia takes place in a framework of a presidential representative democratic republic, whereby the President of Zambia is head of state, head of government and leader of a multi-party system. Executive power is exercised by the government, while legislative power is vested in both the government and parliament. Mansansa (Ukubuta in Bemba) is a Lunda practice where village girls prepare for their adulthood. It is practiced by the Lunda of North-Western Province of Zambia. The age group is between 10 to 14 years old. Parents support the girls by providing them with food, cooking and cleaning utensils and many other things they can use to have a successful event. Kantu Habanji Siachingili (born April 5, 1990), known professionally as Kan 2, is an Zambian singer, songwriter, and is an Ambassador to the Triple V Campaign. She first came onto the Zambian music scene when she featured on Slapdee’s track titled Remember. Her first single Mungeli was released in May 2014. The following year she was nominated twice at the 2015 Mosi Zambia Music Awards and is the winner of the Best Female Artist award 2016 at the Zambian Music Awards (Full article...)

The Mafinga Hills are a plateau covered by hills, situated on the border between Zambia and Malawi, in Southern Africa. These hills are composed of quartzites, phyllites and feldspathic sandstones of sedimentary origin. This plateau has the highest point in Zambia,2,339-metre (7,674 ft) Mafinga Central. The Lusaka Stock Exchange (abbreviated to LuSE) is the principal stock exchange of Zambia. Founded in 1993, it is located in Lusaka. The LuSE is a member of the African Stock Exchanges Association. The Lusaka Stock Exchange (LuSE) was established with preparatory technical assistance from the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and the World Bank in 1993. Mwamba Luchembe is a former Zambia Army Lieutenant who at the age of 30 attempted a coup d’état during the one-party state era of Dr Kenneth Kaunda in 1990. His action came at a time when Zambians needed change of government and had risen against Kaunda's rule. On July 1, 1990 Luchembe managed to make his way into the ZNBC radio studios where he announced that the Zambia Army had taken over Government and he cited food riots of the previous week as reasons for his action because about 27 people had died while more than 100 were wounded. Derby Makinka shown in the picture on the left (born 5 September 1965, in Harare, Zimbabwe, died 27 April 1993) was a Zambian footballer and member of the national team. He was among those killed in the crash of the team plane in Gabon in 1993. Makinka played club football for Profound Warriors in Zambia, where he was voted Zambian Footballer of the year in 1989 before moving to Pomir Dushanbe in the Soviet Top League near the end of 1989 after being spotted during their 4-0 win over(Full article...)

The Roman Catholic Church in Zambia is part of the worldwide Roman Catholic Church, under the spiritual leadership of the Pope in Rome. There are about three million Catholics in the country - about a quarter of the total population. There are ten dioceses, including two archdioceses.The first Catholics in the country were Jesuits who crossed the Zambezi River near Victoria Falls in 1879. Reverend Paul Bwembya Mushindo (born 1896) was a Zambian minister of the church, teacher, writer and politician. He translated the Bible from English to Bemba language. He was born in 1896 in Chinsali District and Both his mother and father were members of the Bemba royal family. His father Mr Mushindo was a first nephew of Chiti Kafula, one of the important members of the Bemba royal household. Paul Chilupe Banda (born June 17, 1989), better known as Just Slim is a Zambian singer, songwriter, Music producer and disc jockey. Paul is an activist of positive living with HIV/AIDS and Ambassador to the Brothers for Life Campaign in Zambia. Levy Patrick Mwanawasa (3 September 1948 – 19 August 2008) was the third Republican President of Zambia. He ruled the country from January 2002 until his death in August 2008. Amayenge is a popular Zambian music group. Started by Chris Chali in 1978 in Choma, the band was originally called Crossbones, one of many Zambian acts that had spring up to do gigs based on Rock. Later the band became known as the New Crossbones, after a change in direction, sponsorship and management. In 1996, Amayenge traveled to Whidbey Island, WA, where they met up with Moye Kashimbi, who had left Zambia to marry US citizen, Vernon Huffman, who became Tour Director for Amayenge.
