Augustine Lungu

Augustine Lungu (December 12, 1970 – March 20, 2010) was born as Augustine Paul Lungu. He was a broadcaster, actor and casting director, known for Bad Timing (2008 movie) directed by Jabbes Mvula. Augustine died on March 20, 2010 in Lusaka, Zambia.[1]

Personal life

Augustine was born on December 12, 1970 and was the first born in his family. He was married to Kamwengo and had four children. [2]

Career and legacy

Most recently, he was the Director of Programs at Muvi Television. He performed often with the Zambia One Comedy Group. His last role was in the movie titled VANGUARD, a MUVI TV production.[3]

The National Association for Media Arts (NAMA) named the Media Artiste of the Year 2013/2014 award at its first-ever Zambia Film, Television and Radio Awards (ZAFTA) after Augustine Lungu. Other artistes to have awards named after them include Dan “Sauzande” Kanengoki, Manda Mwila, Chanda “Maximo” Mwale, Patrick Magoro, Graig Lungu, Joemwa Mtsinje Mwale and Godfrey “Kapotwe” Mwape – all of whom are deceased.[4]

Augustine was featured in numerous theatre productions and once represented the country at the prestigious Edinburgh Arts Festival together with Benne Erastor Banda in the two man act play entitled “Headers and Footers”. Before he joined Muvi TV in 2007 he worked for Standard Chartered Bank, BD Studios and also provided private consultations. He was part of the team that spearheaded the rebirth of the Zambian film and theatre.[3]
