Pre-colonial period
- 1890 – Lewanika, King of Barotseland, signs an agreement with the British South Africa Company granting mineral rights in his territory, marking the beginning of British influence in the region.

- 1924 – Northern Rhodesia officially becomes a British Protectorate under the Colonial Office in London, ending administration by the British South Africa Company.
- 1953 – Federation of Rhodesia and Nyasaland is inaugurated, combining Northern Rhodesia, Southern Rhodesia, and Nyasaland under one political entity.
