During the 61st Independence Day Investiture Ceremony held at [[State House]] on 24 October 2025, President [[Hakainde Hichilema]] awarded Berlingtone Mwape the '''President’s Medal for Gallantry''' for his heroic actions in saving 57 passengers and averting further disaster.
The event, themed “61 Years of Peace and Unity: Building a Resilient and Prosperous Zambia,” recognized citizens whose acts of bravery had positively impacted the nation.
President Hichilema commended Mwape’s presence of mind and courage, stating that his act of driving the burning bus away from a densely populated area and potential fuel source saved lives and property.
