Chalo Chatu:Our Values

These are the core values of Chalo Chatu — what we stand for, how we work, and what we aim to achieve in the long run. Unlike an open wiki where anyone can edit, Chalo Chatu is a carefully curated and controlled space. Contributions are reviewed, verified, and stewarded by our editorial team to ensure accuracy, reliability, and the preservation of Zambia’s history and pride.

We strive for excellence

Through leaps and bounds, as well as stumbles and false starts, we continually seek to improve ourselves, our projects, our communities, and our Zambia. With initiative and experimentation, we iterate our way toward making Zambia a better place, an excellent place. With curiosity and humility, we learn from both mistakes and successes. We are duty-bound to steward our resources wisely and to deliver exceptional knowledge, products, and services.

We welcome and cherish our differences

The sum of all knowledge for every Zambian cannot be achieved by leaving people out. Our vision is more than providing access to knowledge and history; it is about building an inclusive culture. It is about inviting others to join us, thrive with us, and embrace Zambia’s diversity. It is about saying: We see you. You belong with us.

Our differences are precious. They make us smarter, stronger, and more humble. They balance our biases and weaknesses. They open our minds. We do our best work when we understand a problem from many perspectives.

As a controlled space, we do not allow unchecked editing. We welcome contributions, but they must meet our editorial standards, and they are reviewed for quality and reliability. This ensures every voice strengthens the whole, without compromising accuracy.

We are in this together

Collaboration is not always easy. Sometimes we struggle. Working together is hard, but it makes us stronger. We solve problems better together. For it to work, each of us must be honest, accountable, and transparent with one another.

More deeply, many of us find joy and belonging in human connection. We are there for one another; we support each other through life’s ups and downs, mistakes, and successes. We challenge one another in the spirit of personal and professional growth.

We engage in civil discourse

Our words have power. What we say carries consequences. Civil discourse requires kindness, care, respect, tact, empathy, trust, and safety. It is essential to sharing and receiving good information.

We must create spaces where people feel safe to express themselves and be heard — especially in moments of disagreement. Even when we do not fully understand another’s perspective, we remain open-minded and empathetic. We accept nothing less than civility.

As a guided and controlled platform, debate and discussion are encouraged — but always within a respectful, civil, and verifiable framework.

We are inspired

We are guided by a vision of a better Zambia. We honour what has come before us, and we are humbled by the work ahead. It brings us hope and fills us with wonder.

Inspiration gives us joy. We play, laugh, and create together. Inspiration makes room for new ideas, connections, and creativity. Curiosity grows when we allow ourselves to wonder. We do not always need to take ourselves too seriously.
