Penjani Deborah Ng’uni (born June 26, 1986) popularly known as Penjani is a Zambian gospel singer and entrepreneur.

Early life

She was born in 1986 to Emmanuel and Ruth Ng’uni in Lusaka. She is the first of five children.

Education

Penjani went to Sonshine School, a ministry of the Northmead Assemby of God in 1990. She later went to Lumuno Primary School where she did her primary school and thereafter went to St Mary’s Secondary School in Lusaka.

She studied Business Administration with Zambia Insurance Business College Trust (ZIBCT) in 2005. She then obtained her Degree in Business Studies at the University of Greenwich.

Music career

Penjani comes from a family of singers with her dad, Emmanuel Ng’uni, being one of earliest gospel folk musicians in Zambia. She started singing at an early age of three and her dad was very key in involving and encouraging her in music. She started singing in the kids choir and later in the youth choir at church.

In 2006 she participated in the Celtel Star Search and she was a semi-finalist. In 2009 she participated in M-net Idols Eastern and Southern Africa.

She has ministered extensively both on the local scene and international. Some of the countries she has ministered in include Namibia, Ghana, South Africa, Swaziland and the United Kingdom.

Some of the notable local concerts and events she has ministered at include the Peace Concert, Penjani and the Girls Christmas Concert in 2012 and Singing Again Worship Experience in 2015.

Discography

  • She released her first studio album in 2010 entitled “Alansunga” (local word meaning “He Keeps Me”).
  • She released her second album “Feel Me” in 2014. The album included popular songs such as “Made Me Smile”, “I’ll Make It” and “Teti”.

Other involvements

In 2007 Penjani featured in the first installment of the TV business reality show [[My Own Boss] on Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation (ZNBC).
