Dora Moono Nyambe (23 June 1992 – 25 December 2024) was a Zambian educator, humanitarian, and social media influencer. She was the founder of Footprints of Hope, an organisation dedicated to providing education, shelter, and care to vulnerable children in Mapapa village in Mkushi, Central Zambia. Through her social media presence, Dora garnered international support and funding, transforming the lives of hundreds of children in rural Zambia.

Early Life

Dora Moono Nyambe was born on 23 June 1992 in Lusaka, Zambia. She grew up in the capital city, where she completed her education and began her teaching career. Despite her urban upbringing, Dora developed a deep passion for improving the lives of vulnerable children in rural areas of Zambia.

Founding Footprints of Hope

In 2019, Dora left Lusaka to settle in Mapapa, a remote village in Zambia’s Central Province. She founded Footprints of Hope, a nonprofit organisation dedicated to providing education and care to children who lacked access to basic schooling and a safe environment.

Initially, Dora began teaching under the shade of a tree, with no formal infrastructure. Over time, Footprints of Hope grew into a network of four schools, equipped with brick buildings, solar power, and wells for fresh water. The organisation provided education to over 500 children, many of whom faced challenges such as poverty, early marriages, and neglect. Footprints of Hope also served as a refuge for at-risk children, offering love, care and mentorship.

Social Media Advocacy

Dora gained global recognition through her social media platforms, particularly TikTok, where her heartfelt videos showcased the transformative work of Footprints of Hope. Her content reached millions, amassing over 171 million likes and inspiring a global community of donors and supporters.

Through crowdfunding platforms such as GoFundMe, Dora raised significant resources to build and sustain her schools. Her social media presence highlighted the power of digital advocacy in addressing real-world issues, earning her admiration from people worldwide.

Death

Dora Nyambe passed away on 25 December 2024 after a short illness. The official postmortem revealed that she died due to blood clots that may have caused cardiac failure. Her death shocked the global community, leaving a profound void among her supporters and the children whose lives she transformed.

Legacy

Despite Dora's untimely death, her organisation, Footprints of Hope, continues to operate and uphold her vision. The Zambian government, through the Ministry of Community Development and Social Services and the Ministry of Education, has pledged support to ensure the continuity of the children’s education and well-being.

One of her last wishes was realised when the President of Zambia, through his advisor Mr. Jito Kayumba, donated a school bus to Footprints of Hope on 25 January 2025, exactly a month after Dora's passing. This gesture underscores Dora's enduring impact on her community and the nation.

Recognition

Dora's work has been celebrated both locally and internationally, with supporters praising her for her dedication to education, her compassion and her ability to mobilise global support for a remote Zambian village.
